OSC Foundation Scholarship Opportunities Available for Undergraduate and Graduate Students
Deadline for applications is January 9, 2009.
Worthington, OH - The Ohio Soybean Council (OSC) Foundation is now accepting applications for the 2009-2010 Ohio Agricultural Science and Bioproducts Research Scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students at Ohio colleges and universities. These scholarships are designed to promote the application of science and technology fields to the agricultural industry, and support the development of the bioproducts industry in Ohio.
"The list of industrial applications for soybeans continues to grow, and it is important to support the science and technology behind these applications," said Kirk Merritt, OSC Foundation Director of Outreach and Programs. "This is the second year that we've offered these scholarships, and we believe they are an important part of strengthening the future of Ohio's soybean industry."
Four scholarships of up to $3,000 each will be awarded to undergraduate students who are current Ohio residents and enrolled as a full-time student at an Ohio college or university. The student must have attained at least sophomore status by the fall of 2009 with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher in their major field of study. Applicants must be majoring in agricultural science, agricultural engineering, agricultural communications, agricultural business, biochemistry, bioengineering or a related field, and planning a career focused on the application of technology to agriculture.
Additionally, a fifth scholarship of $5,000 will be awarded to one outstanding undergraduate applicant who also meets the above mentioned requirements. The Bhima Vijayendran Scholarship is named in honor of this researcher's many contributions to the Ohio and U.S. soybean industries in the area of bioproduct development.
Two scholarships of up to $5,000 each are available to graduate students who are enrolled as a full-time student at an Ohio college or university, and have proof of legal residency in the U.S. Applicants must be conducting research in bioproducts, biobased materials, bioengineering, biopolymers or a related field, and focused on the development and use of biobased products and materials derived from soybeans.
All OSC Foundation scholarships will be competitively awarded with funds paid directly to the educational institution. Scholarships are not renewable, although recipients may reapply.
The deadline for applications is January 9, 2009.
