Joslin and Steiner Elected to ASA Executive Committee

WORTHINGTON, Ohio - Two Ohio Soybean Association (OSA) farmer leaders were elected yesterday to national positions on the American Soybean Association (ASA) executive committee during the ASA Board of Directors meeting in St. Louis. Rob Joslin of Shelby County was elected as first vice president, putting him in line to be president next year, and Joe Steiner of Warren County was elected as a vice president.

The ASA executive committee is made up of the positions of president, chairman, first vice president, secretary, treasurer and five vice presidents.

Joslin has served the past two years on the ASA Executive Committee as a Vice President and chairman of the Membership and Corporate Relations Committee. He will assume a new position as chairman of the Public Affairs Committee. Joslin also currently serves as a board member for OSA and has held numerous leadership positions including president. He is a member of the Ohio Farm Bureau, Ohio Corn Growers Association, Ohio Wheat Growers Association and the Ohio Pork Producers and farms soybeans, corn and wheat near Sidney with his wife Ellen.

"I'm honored to be elected as first vice president of ASA by the Board of Directors. Since 1920, ASA has looked out for the best interest of U.S. soybean farmers in both domestic policy and international marketing," said Joslin. "Some of my goals are to increase ASA membership, further develop our relationships with international trade partners, and deal with domestic policy issues, including the implementation of the 2008 Farm Bill, free trade agreements and climate change legislation."

This is Steiner's first term on the ASA executive committee and he will replace Joslin as chairman of the Membership and Corporate Relations Committee. He is also a current board member for OSA and has held numerous leadership positions including president. He is an active member of the Ohio Corn Growers Association, Ohio Farm Bureau Federation and Cincinnati Agribusiness Council. He currently farms near Mason with his wife Annette where they raise soybeans, corn, wheat and beef cattle.

"I am certainly honored to follow in the footsteps of other leaders from Ohio on the ASA executive committee," said Steiner. "I will work hard to improve the opportunities for Ohio, as well as all U.S. soybean farmers."

The Ohio Soybean Association is governed by a 24-member volunteer farmer board dedicated to education and promotion, as well as to uniting producer interest through support of legislative activities beneficial to the Ohio soybean industry.
