WORTHINGTON, Ohio - The Ohio Soybean Council (OSC) Board of Trustees held officer elections yesterday during the board meeting. The positions elected were Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary, making up the OSC Executive Committee for the 2009 fiscal year.

Keith Kemp of Preble County was elected the new OSC Chairman, replacing Dan Corcoran of Pike County who served as Chairman for the past two years. Kemp has held many different positions on the board, including Secretary, Treasurer and most recently Vice-Chairman. He has also served on various committee appointments. Kemp resides near West Manchester and produces soybeans, corn, wheat and hogs on his farm.

Allen Armstrong of Clark County was elected Vice-Chairman. Armstrong most recently served as Treasurer for the past two years, and has also held the position of Secretary and had other committee appointments. He raises soybeans and corn on his farm near South Charleston and is an active member of his community as a Township Trustee and member of the Clark County 4-H Committee.

Elected as Treasurer was Jan Layman of Hardin County. Layman previously served as Secretary and represents OSC as a board member on the National Biodiesel Board. He raises soybeans and corn on his farm near Kenton and is a member of the Ohio Soybean Association, Ohio Corn Growers Association, Hardin County Cattlemen, Hardin County Pork Producers and serves on the Upper Scioto Drainage and Conservancy Board of Directors.

New to the OSC Executive Committee is John Motter of Hancock County, who was elected to serve as Secretary. Motter has previously held various committee appointments including Chair of the Producer Communications and Production Research committee. He is active in other agriculture organizations in his hometown of Jenera, serving as a Hancock Soil & Water Conservation District Supervisor and member of the Hancock County and State Extension Advisory Boards.

Headquartered in Worthington, the Ohio Soybean Council is governed by a 17-member volunteer farmer board, which directs the Soybean Promotion and Research Program. The program's primary goal is to improve soybean profitability by targeting research and development projects through the investment of farmer-contributed funds.
