Dan Corcoran Appointed to the United Soybean Board of Directors
COLUMBUS, OH - The Ohio Soybean Council (OSC) applauds the recent appointment of OSC Chairman Dan Corcoran to the United Soybean Board (USB) Board of Directors by U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary, Ed Schafer. Corcoran, a soybean farmer from Pike County, will replace Bill Coppess from Darke County, whose term with USB ends later this year.
"I'm really looking forward to working with soybean farmers from across the U.S., as well as industry partners," said Corcoran. "I think this is an excellent opportunity to not only talk about everything that Ohio is doing, but also to further the opportunities for the soybean industry nationwide, including through the development of new uses for soybeans."
Corcoran first joined OSC in 2002, and has since held several leadership positions including Secretary, Treasurer, and Vice-President. He is currently serving his second term as Chairman. He has played a significant role in the development of the Ohio BioProducts Innovation Center and in the promotion of soy biodiesel. He has worked hard to represent Ohio soybean farmers at the state level, and now looks forward to representing them at the national level.
"I am very proud to accept this appointment and will do my very best to represent the interests of all soybean producers," said Corcoran.
Corcoran graduated from The Ohio State University in 1986 where he majored in Agriculture Mechanics and Systems. After working for the Miami County Coop, Corcoran moved home to farm. He currently operates Corcoran Farms in Pike County. He produces soybeans, corn, wheat and popcorn, and manages a commercial cow operation.
In addition to his position with OSC, he has served on the Pike County Farm Bureau Board, 4-H Extension Advisory Board, and is a youth basketball coach. He and his wife, Donna, have 4 children.
Headquartered in Columbus, the Ohio Soybean Council is governed by an 18-member volunteer farmer board, and the United Soybean Board, headquartered in St. Louis, MO, is governed by 64 farmer-directors representing all U.S. soybean farmers. Both programs seek to improve soybean profitability by targeting research and development projects through the investment of farmer-contributed funds.
