FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
COLUMBUS, OH - As stewards and partners of the land, today's farmers understand the responsibility of protecting one of our most precious natural resources and are dedicated to enhancing the quality of the land entrusted in them. The Ohio Soybean Association (OSA) is proud to announce the Environmental Stewardship Award recognizing the outstanding environmental and conservation achievements of an Ohio soybean farmer who has risen to this calling and distinguished themselves by taking care of the environment while still reaping economic returns from their farm.
One soybean farmer will be chosen by a selection committee, which will consider each farmer's environmental and economic program. Entries will be evaluated based on cropland management practices (50 percent), farmstead protection (30 percent) and conservation and environmental management (20 percent).
The award is sponsored by OSA in conjunction with the Ohio Livestock Coalition (OLC). The winner will be recognized during the OLC annual meeting on March 29, 2005 at the Der Dutchman Restaurant in Plain City. An application can be obtained by contacting OSA at 1-888-SOYOHIO and must be postmarked by February 15, 2005. Entries should be sent to OSA via mail or fax. All contact information can be found on the application.
The Ohio Soybean Association is governed by a 22-member volunteer farmer board dedicated to education and promotion, as well as to uniting producer interest through support of legislative activities beneficial to the Ohio soybean industry.
