FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

COLUMBUS, OH
The Ohio Soybean Association (OSA) in cooperation with the American Soybean Association (ASA) is seeking soybean farmers who understand the responsibility of protecting one of our most precious natural resources the land. These individuals are encouraged to apply for the 2006 Conservation Legacy Award. This award is sponsored by ASA, Monsanto and The Corn and Soybean Digest.

"The Conservation Legacy Awards recognize the outstanding environmental and conservation achievements of soybean farmers who rise to this calling and distinguish themselves by taking care of the environment while still reaping economic returns from their farms," said John Lumpe, OSA Executive Director.

The selection process will be based on each farmer's environmental and economic program. A national selection committee will evaluate all nominations and then four regional winners will be selected and a national winner will be chosen among the four. The regions are divided into a western, Midwestern, southern, and northeastern region.

Dedication to the land through cropland management practices, farmstead protection and conservation and environmental management will all be selection criteria.

"Only entries showcasing management practices that are both environmentally friendly and profitable will be eligible," said Lumpe. "Growers using reduced-tillage systems, such as no-till, strip-till, minimum-till or other conservation practices, are encouraged to submit an application."

The application deadline is October 28, 2005 and applications can be obtained by going to www.soygrowers.com. The four regional winners will receive an expense-paid trip to the 2006 Commodity Classic in Anaheim, California, March 2-4 and will be encouraged to attend the awards banquet held during Commodity Classic. For more information, contact ASA at 800-688-7692.

The Ohio Soybean Association is governed by a 22-member volunteer farmer board dedicated to education and promotion, as well as to uniting producer interest through support of legislative activities beneficial to the Ohio soybean industry.
