Ohio Soybean Farmers Gain Dedicated Leader
COLUMBUS, OH (Jan. 19, 2005) - Creating new profit opportunities for Ohio soybean farmers is the top priority of John Lumpe, new Executive Director of the Ohio Soybean Association (OSA) and the Ohio Soybean Council (OSC). With almost 15 years of experience in Ohio agriculture, Lumpe brings a deep commitment to enhancing Ohio soybean farmer profitability.
"With the rapid changes occurring in soybean farming, we needed a candidate who not only knows the industry, but also will effectively forge partnerships among farmers, processors and others in agriculture," says Rob Joslin, OSA President and a soybean farmer from Sidney. "After doing a thorough search to fill the position, we found that John has the type of leadership skills necessary to bring about positive changes for soybean farmers."
Lumpe has spent most of his career dedicated to working on behalf of Ohio farmers. He started this commitment with Lord, Sullivan & Yoder Public Relations working with a number of agribusiness groups such as American Soybean Association, United Soybean Board, the National Biodiesel Board and OSC.
His excellence as a communicator led to his role as OSA/OSC Director of Communications. As Director of New Use Development, Lumpe helped to ensure the success of soy biodiesel across the state. In fact, the number of soy biodiesel stations has more than doubled in the last three years.
In his new role as Executive Director, Lumpe will be responsible for enhancing Ohio soybean farmer profitability through many areas such as international marketing, new use developments, production research and soyfoods.
"John's commitment to soybean farmers is evident with the successes that he has had," says Amy Sigg Davis, OSC Chairman and a farmer from Lebanon. "His experiences have given him the vision that will lead to great profit opportunities for soybean farmers."
The Ohio Soybean Association is governed by a 22-member volunteer farmer board dedicated to education and promotion, as well as to uniting producer interest through support of legislative activities beneficial to the Ohio soybean industry.
Headquartered in Columbus, the Ohio Soybean Council is governed by a 17-member volunteer farmer board, which directs the Soybean Promotion and Research Program. The program's primary goal is to improve soybean profitability by targeting research and development programs through the investment of farmer-contributed funds.
