Attention Hospice and Home Care Members Caring for Terminally Ill Patients
A few months ago, National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) began working with producers at 60 Minutes on a story focused on care at the end of life-specifically, the costs of end-of-life care. It's not necessarily a hospice story but it does point out the value of hospice.
The story will be broadcast this Sunday, November 22, 2009. It usually airs at 7:00pm ET but if the football game runs over, they will start right after.
NHPCO helped gather a lot of data and shared a library of professional journal articles. They were in frequent contact as the story came together, made suggestions of professional experts in the field and provided contacts at a number of hospices as producers looked for a family story to illustrate their points. It should be noted, the producers were looking for patients who were not fortunate to have ended up in hospice care...but the contacts were invaluable and NHPCO received a great deal of thanks.
Steve Kroft is doing the segment and it was inspired, somewhat, by his father's death a couple years ago. You can see information on the story at the CBS website by clicking here. Please tune in if you can!
