IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR CURRENT AND PROSPECTIVE MASTER EMBALMERS AND/OR MASTER FUNERAL DIRECTORS
Beginning January 1, 2012, the Board will begin enforcing the Master Training requirement.
What does this mean?
The Board will require proof of attendance from a Master Training Seminar before you will be able to serve in the role of a master embalmer and/or master funeral director.
How do I obtain the Master Training?
The training has been offered in the past by the Ohio Funeral Directors Association and Buckeye State Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association.
The only training opportunity remaining prior to January 1, 2012 is currently scheduled for Tuesday, November 8, 2011 in Cuyahoga Falls and is being sponsored by OFDA. To register for this program you may contact OFDA at 800-589-6332. More information is available HERE.
4717-5-02 [Effective 1/1/2012] Master embalmer and master funeral director requirements.
A master embalmer and a master funeral director with five years of experience in the state of Ohio must successfully complete training approved by the board. The master training must be a one-day six-hour class, not to be offered in segments on separate dates. The training must be classroom and/or teleconference setting with interaction between instructors and participants, not correspondence. The training may be through webinars or other electronic means that allow interaction between the instructors and participants. The board will not approve training that is correspondence or online courses. The course shall be open to all licensees. The training must consist of the following topics:
(A) Federal trade commission;
(B) Liturgical and non-liturgical and veterans administration;
(C) Occupational health and safety administration (OSHA);
(D) Preneed laws and rules, not sales;
(E) Vital statistics laws and rules;
(F) Cremation law and rule;
(G) Chapter 4717. of the Revised Code;
(H) Role and duties of master.
