Ohio Fire & Emergency Services Foundation
SCHOLARSHIPS
The purpose of the Ohio Fire and Emergency Services Foundation is to promote professional development and provide education and training for fire suppression, fire prevention, emergency management and other areas of public safety for Ohio's fire, emergency medical service and emergency response officers and members. As such, the Foundation offers the following scholarship opportunities:
Dominion Foundation OFE Scholarships
These scholarships are available through the generous donation of The Dominion Foundation and must be applied to the Ohio Fire Executive Program. Each scholarship is worth $1,600 per session. (There are two sessions each of the first two years of the OFE program and one session the final year.) Scholarships will be based upon leadership abilities, financial need and academic capabilities. A limited number of scholarships are available to be awarded.
Fire Behavior Class and Mobile Fire Behavior Lab
This program is available free of charge to fire departments in the Dominion Service area in 2010 thanks to a grant from the Dominion Foundation to our foundation, the Ohio Fire & Emergency Services Foundation. The Mobile Fire Behavior Lab is a well-established program that has trained thousands of firefighters in the dangers of "flashover". Flashover occurs when a room becomes so intensely hot, it bursts into flames, making escape virtually impossible for firefighters and any occupants trapped inside.
The Mobile Lab creates pre-flashover conditions. Instructors can demonstrate different phases of a fire, from inception to flashover. In addition, they can teach firefighters how to recognize and prevent flashover within a safely controlled environment.
Along with its instructors, the Mobile Lab travels across the state of Ohio conducting demonstrations and training. The Ohio Fire Academy is committed to providing the most realistic training in a safe manner to the fire service of Ohio. Education and training are essential in ensuring the safety of firefighters.
