State Fire Marshal (SFM) Awards for Heroism:
Don’t forget that we have the SFM Awards for Heroism that can be submitted at any time of the year. The SFM Award for Heroism augments the Commission’s annual awards. These awards will be given based on a nomination by a member of the fire service, state legislature or local government and a set of specific criteria. This allows for the opportunity to recognize heroes on a spontaneous basis as well as placing their names and action in consideration for the Hall of Fame awards.

While the Hall of Fame awards are handed out each September and based on actions from the preceding year, nominations for the Award for Heroism can be submitted at any time of the year for consideration and recognition. There are no specific time constraints on receipt of descriptions of the heroic acts, however, submitting nominations in a timely manner will allow for immediate recognition from the general public and media.

Depending on the request from the nominator, presentations range from mailing out the certificates to an official ceremony. Again, that ceremony would include fire officials, local officials, nominator, nominees and a representative from the SFM office. We do a release regarding an official presentation.
