Understanding Fire Behavior Class and Mobile Fire Behavior Lab

WE THANK THE DOMINION FOUNDATION FOR THEIR GENEROUS SUPPORT. DUE TO THE OVERWHELMING RESPONSE, THE GRANT HAS BEEN EXHAUSTED.

The Ohio Fire Chiefs' Association, The Ohio and Emergency Services Foundation and the Dominion Foundation have teamed up to offer lifesaving training to departments in Ohio counties that are serviced by Dominion Energy Company.

The Fire Behavior Class and Mobile Fire Behavior Lab will be made available free of charge to fire departments in the Dominion Service area in 2010 thanks to a grant from the Dominion Foundation to our foundation, the Ohio Fire & Emergency Services Foundation..

The Mobile Fire Behavior Lab is a well-established program that has trained thousands of firefighters in the dangers of "flashover". Flashover occurs when a room becomes so intensely hot, it bursts into flames, making escape virtually impossible for firefighters and any occupants trapped inside.

The Mobile Lab creates pre-flashover conditions. Instructors can demonstrate different phases of a fire, from inception to flashover. In addition, they can teach firefighters how to recognize and prevent flashover within a safely controlled environment.

Along with its instructors, the Mobile Lab travels across the state of Ohio conducting demonstrations and training. The Ohio Fire Academy is committed to providing the most realistic training in a safe manner to the fire service of Ohio. Education and training are essential in ensuring the safety of firefighters.
