Fire Chief

Bainbridge Township; Geauga County

Bainbridge Township is accepting applications for the position of full-time Fire Chief.  Bainbridge Township is a progressive, growing community located in southwestern Geauga County, 36 miles southeast of Cleveland.  Bainbridge Township is known for its high-quality of life, exemplary school system, and semi-rural atmosphere.  Bainbridge Township features varied residential and recreational opportunities and has positioned itself for future economic growth and development.  The Bainbridge Township Fire Department is primarily a part-time department with 52 part-time and one career personnel operating from one fire station.  The department is a full-service agency that provides emergency response services and community outreach to 12,000 residents in an area spanning 25 square miles.  Future plans include expanding the number of career personnel to meet growing service demands. 

The Fire Chief reports directly to the Board of Trustees and is expected to be highly visible and active in the community.  This position requires a visionary leader with exceptional character and integrity, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to develop strong working relationships.  Successful applicants will possess astute financial skills and have a broad background in all aspects of service delivery including suppression, EMS, prevention and inspection.  

Applicants should have a proven record of leadership with a minimum of 15 years of progressively responsible full-time fire service experience, with five or more years of permanent assignment as a command officer (i.e. Battalion Chief /shift officer or above).  Applicants must possess the following Ohio certifications: Firefighter Level II, EMT-B, CFSI, fire or EMS instructor, and a valid Ohio Operator’s License.  Applicants must also possess an associate degree in Fire Science, Fire Administration, Public Safety Management, Business Administration or a related field.  Completion of an advanced degree, the Ohio Fire Executive Program (OFE) or Executive Fire Officer Program (EFO) is desirable.  The successful applicant must be in good physical condition and have the ability to pass all pre-employment screenings including physical examination and drug screening.
