Battalion Chief
Trotwood Division of Fire & Rescue
The City of Trotwood, Ohio (26,500) is seeking to hire a Battalion Chief to assist in leading the City’s Division of Fire & Rescue. Trotwood is located northwest of Dayton, Ohio. The Division protects approximately 28 square miles and operates out of three fire stations responding to fire, emergency medical services (EMS) and specialized response teams within the City. The Division has an authorized strength of 23 full-time and 60 part-time positions, with an annual operating budget of $4 million. In 2013, the Division responded to almost 6,000 calls for service, 4,550 were EMS and 1,350 were fire and other emergency incidents.
Competencies Required Include: Knowledge of and ability to apply modern fire administration and management techniques including organization, staffing, financing, budgeting, equipment management and maintenance, as well as short and long-range operational planning.
Credential Requirements: A Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Science, Public Administration or a related field is preferred. An Associate’s Degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school in Fire Science with Executive Fire Officer Training is a plus; any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job is required.
Also required is ten (10) years of progressively responsible fire/rescue experience, five (5) years of which must have been at the Company Officer Level in a similar sized department/city in terms of volume.
Additional Requirements: Possession of the following: State of Ohio Level II Firefighter certification and Paramedic license. Possession of or ability to obtain certification in the following within two (2) years of appointment: Emergency Medical Services and/or Fire Instructor Certificate, State of Ohio Fire Safety Inspector and certification as a Fire Investigator.
Compensation: Pay Range DOQ $21.73 - $24.80 per hour based on a 24/48 schedule.
