Dealers No Longer Need to Collect Sales Tax on Vehicles That Will be Removed to the State of Washington

Since 2007, non-residents of eight (8) states, Arizona, California, Florida, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, South Carolina, and Washington pay sales tax to Ohio when  purchasing a vehicle in Ohio.  That number has now been reduced to seven (7).

Recently the Ohio Department of Taxation confirmed with the state of Washington that they now allow non-residents to complete an affidavit and remove a vehicle without paying sales tax.  In other words if an Ohio resident were to purchase a vehicle in Washington they would not be charged sales tax.  Therefore the state of Ohio will no longer charge Washington residents sales tax when purchasing vehicles here.
