Mission
Ohio ACEP exists to promote quality emergency medical care and to represent the interests of Ohio's Emergency Physicians.
ABOUT US
In 2012, the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians celebrates its 40th Anniversary! Since its charter in 1972, Ohio ACEP has been at the forefront of advancing the profession of emergency medicine in Ohio. We are one of the largest and most active chapters in the nation, and we’re proud to say that our activities are member-driven.
For 40 years, Ohio ACEP has served the state’s emergency physicians through tireless advocacy, nationally-recognized continuing medical education and physician leadership development.
Advocacy
We fight for our members’ interests on the issues that affect them most: medical liability reform, ED overcrowding, fair reimbursement and ensuring patient access to quality emergency care. When an issue that affects emergency doctors arises, our members can rest assured that Ohio ACEP is at the table, making their voices heard.
Continuing Medical Education
Ohio ACEP is proud to offer some of the best continuing medical education in the world. Our educational products include:
- Emergency Medicine Review Course
- Basic Emergency Medicine Ultrasound
- LLSA Fast Track Review
- And more
Physician Leadership Development
Through our popular Leadership Development Academy, we offer participants instructional sessions and guided real-world experience in the arenas of political advocacy, public education and leadership. Members of each annual class learn invaluable skills to advance their careers and the profession of emergency medicine.
We’re proud to be the premier organization representing emergency doctors and their patients. As we look forward to another 40 years of excellence, we invite you to join us in our year-long anniversary celebration!
History
When it was chartered in 1972, Ohio ACEP’s mission was simple: to promote quality emergency medical care and to represent the interests of Ohio’s emergency physicians. Since then, Ohio ACEP has grown as Ohio’s leading voice for advancing emergency medical care. Over the years, we have expanded the services we offer to our members, including several world-class continuing medical education courses and acclaimed board review products.
We’re proud to have over 1,200 emergency physicians, residents and medical students as members. Many of these members are national leaders in the field of emergency medicine and maintain active roles in Ohio ACEP instruction and leadership.
2011 proved to be a dynamic year for Ohio ACEP. We continued to advocate strong, effective tort reform for emergency care providers—including our support for Senate Bill 129. Through our membership in the Ohio Alliance for Civil Justice, Ohio ACEP also participated in an amicus brief backing existing malpractice protections . Our Leadership Development Academy’s 2011 class met with elected officials, making their voices heard in both Columbus and on Capitol Hill in Washington. Through the legislative leadership of State Rep. Terry Johnson, DO, Ohio is tackling its prescription drug abuse epidemic, and Ohio ACEP was at the table. And as the enforcement of this legislation continues to take shape, we will keep working to ensure that unintended consequences don’t hamstring our members’ ability to provide patients with appropriate medications. Our 2011 Emergency Medicine Review Courses, attended by more than 500 physicians, were again a smashing success, and planning is underway to make next year’s courses even better.
In 2012, as we look back on 40 years of accomplishments, we also look forward to continuing and improving upon our advocacy, education and physician leadership programs.
