Massachusetts is Ready to Grow!

Our MCDA Chapter has been one of the oldest chapters of NCDA and had its initial constitution prior to NVGA being renamed NCDA. The original constitution heading is:

CONSTITUTION

OF

THE MASSACHUSETTS BAY ASSOCIATION FOR

COUNSELING AND DEVELOPMENT

FORMERLY KNOWN AS THE GREATER BOSTON

PERSONNEL AND GUIDANCE ASSOCIATION

(1956-86) Chartered in 1920

A full replica of this constitution was presented to NCDA at the July 8-10 Centennial Global Career Development Conference Celebration for the NCDA Archives.

Historical Notes

MCDA has a longstanding tradition of serving persons in the Massachusetts Bay area and promoting excellence in career development and counseling research and practice. Much of its recent history has focused on the important role for school guidance counselors who facilitate students’ school-to-work and school-to-school transitions. Under the leadership of Edward Bryant, MCDA’s first President, and a retired Captain in the U.S. Navy, MCDA encouraged the active participation of school counselors to connect with post-secondary institution through networking at numerous “dinner meetings”, including spearheading many activities for graduating high school youth who expressed an interest in serving with the United States armed services.

MCDA Today

Ed Colozzi, MCDA’s current “acting“ President since Ed Bryant has recently retired, wants to continue the tradition of promoting excellence in career development research and practice. Having served as NCDA’s Membership Chair from 2003-04 through 2007-08, initiating five teleconferences involving many national and international sites, Ed was privileged to collaborate with colleagues to implement numerous activities that encouraged a multicultural connection with many people in diverse settings.

Invitation to Join MCDA

It is now important to expand our MCDA State Division and reach out to our many colleagues doing valuable work in numerous settings with multicultural students and clients throughout Massachusetts. This includes professionals from diverse and excellent associations that currently serve the Commonwealth, counselors and teachers from K12 and post-secondary education settings, counselor educators, representatives from agency, business, and various public and private sectors including private practice, government, labor, parents, and ALL stakeholders. We must collaboratively discuss issues and create innovative and relevant career-life development programs that sufficiently prepare youth for their future and contributing members of an informed citizenry, and help adults deal with their own on-going career-life transitions.

Please join with me in this call for YOUR participation to expand MCDA and promote excellence. Contact me at careercoachcolozzi@verizon.net for a membership application and more information. Massachusetts is ready to grow!

Sincerely,

Edward A. Colozzi

Edward Anthony Colozzi, Ed.D.

Acting President MCDA (Massachusetts Career Development Association)
