BRIEF BIOGRAPHY: Ron Cathey

Ron Cathey is a career development practitioner.  He serves as Director of Counseling and Career Services at Louisiana Tech University, Ruston, Louisiana. His responsibilities include directing career/counseling services for university students/alumni with interest in career decision making and the job search process.  He credits his participation in NCDA as the foundation of his career development education and the source of the vision and mentors to help him serve career clients. 

Ron currently serves NCDA as the Southern Region Trustee.  He was selected to the inaugural class of the NCDA Leadership Academy and has been a NCDA Master Career Development Professional (MCDP) since 2004.  Ron has served NDCA on the Awards Committee since 2006 and the Mentoring Committee, 2006 – 2009.  He has also earned a certification as a Career Development Facilitator Instructor.  Ron coordinated the NCDA community service project for the ACA New Orleans conference.  The project focused on collaborating with three agencies to provide career development resources for youth, the homeless, and those seeking a GED.

Ron received his Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Louisiana, Monroe.  He has been active in the Louisiana counseling profession.  After serving the Louisiana Career Development Association as president, 2004-05, he served the Louisiana Counseling Association as president, 2008-2009. Ron has been honored with the Distinguished Professional Service Award, Louisiana Counseling Association, and the Career Counselor of the Year Award, 2009, by the Louisiana Career Development Association.  He is the current president-elect of the Louisiana College Counseling Association.
