State CDAs Leadership Training

Conference Follow-up

State Career Development Association Leaders gathered on Wednesday June 30, 2010 in San Francisco at the NCDA conference. During this two-hour session, participants gained valuable information on a variety of topics with the purpose of aiding and improving the efforts of state associations. A quick review of the materials is posted here, along with the opportunity for readers to respond via the Comments section below.

1. The new Leadership Handbook will be posted online as soon as the State Leaders submit the State Division Leadership Report.

2. Charles Lehman discussed financial information. It was suggested that NCDA collect state dues information and share for the purposes of comparison. States that have questions about CEUs can contact Bobbi Carter at NCDA headquarters: bcarter@ncda.org

3. Program ideas were presented by Cynthia Marco-Scanlon from the Ohio Career Development Associaton. Click here for a summary of OCDA activities.

4. Leadership Academy participants conducted a Membership Study (Stephanie Burns), explored Leadership (Cori Schaff), expanded Statewide Communications (Joyce Donohue) and promoted the Mentoring Program (Michelle Carroll). A summary can be found online, under Leadership Academy

5. NCDA Headquarters, the website, and Publications can also serve State CDAs in the following ways:

   1. Mailing lists

   2. State conference give-aways (e.g. NCDA books and membership forms)

   3. State “Best Practices” list – ideas to use

   4. Speaker's Bureau – for identifying an expert presenter

   5. Related Conferences listing – post state activities

   6. Monthly e-bulletin Announcements to all members

   7. Web magazine articles (over 500 online) for reading and reprinting in state newsletters

   8. New Blog or comments feature for starting discussions about articles

   9. Career Developments magazine, covering a new topic in each issue

   10. Opportunities to get published, or get involved (see Committees listed under About NCDA)

6. NCDA President and President-elect open to new ideas. Announcement of upcoming Webinars and a new Gallup Survey.

7. Regional Trustees met in small groups to allow for topical discussions.

A big welcome to Missouri, a new chartered state this year, and congratulations to El-Namaa as an NCDA International Affiliate located in Egypt/MENA Region. "El-Namaa is an Egyptian developmental non-governmental organization with the mission of providing Egyptian people with the means to analyze and better understand their latent abilities and skills and unleash their potential."
