Chaos Theory of Careers Implementing Theory Into Practice

Mercer University, Atlanta Georgia

Chaos Theory of Careers (CTC) (Pryor & Bright, 2011) addresses the non-linearity and uncertainty of career development which often frees clients from outdated modes when making career decisions. According to CTC, career is ever-changing, complex and unpredictable, thus making it sometimes difficult to conceptualize holistic interventions for clients.

This session will address the fundamental and theoretical tenets of CTC; the discussion and demonstration of counseling/coaching interventions based on CTC; and how to use these interventions to effect positive career change with clients in university, community, and private practice settings.

After attending the workshop, attendees will:

-Understand the basic concepts of the Chaos Theory of Careers.

-Learn about and apply various CTC-based career counseling interventions with clients.

-Practice their skills in activities and role play scenarios; and clarify meaning during discussion.
