The Midwest Care Alliance: Your source for home, hospice & palliative care

Midwest Care Alliance (MCA), a non-profit organization, was chartered in 1979 in response to the need to promote hospice care and to support the growth and development of provider programs through education, advocacy and technical information.

Originally known as the Ohio Hospice Organization, its name was changed in 1999 to Ohio Hospice & Palliative Care Organization (OHPCO) in order to promote the development of palliative care programs.  In December 2006, the OHPCO Board of Directors approved the development of a home care division (Ohio Home Care Organization) within the organization to begin providing similar services to Home Care agencies.

In 2010, the Organization’s name was changed to Midwest Care Alliance (MCA) in order to better reflect the vision and evolving role as a leader and educator in the home, hospice and palliative care arena.  Today, the organization is chartered as a 501(c)(6) membership organization.

The organization is committed to advancing excellence in home, hospice and palliative care in Ohio.  Our focus can be seen through our philosophy of, “It’s All About CARE!”  CARE, for us, provides Consultative services, Advocacy Efforts, Resources and Educational offerings to our members and the community.

Additionally, MCA provides education and guidance for health care planning by distributing advance care planning materials through two booklets known as Conversations that Light the Way and Choices: Living Well at the End-of-Life.  These documents include valuable information on Living Will Declarations, Health Care Power of Attorney Forms, Organ Donation Forms and Do Not Resuscitate Information.  They are available for download on the Midwest Care Alliance website.

MCA’s affiliate, the Midwest Center for Home, Hospice & Palliative Care Education, is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization which receives its funding through a variety of resources, including educational programming, grant funding, donations and charitable workplace campaigns.
