ECA - 2012 Convention - Call for Papers - Communication and Technology Interest Group
103rd Annual Eastern Communication Association Convention
“Transitions”
Cambridge, Massachusetts
Royal Sonesta Hotel
April 26-29, 2012
Submission Deadline: October 14, 2011
The Communication and Technology Interest Group invites submission of competitive papers, thematic program/panel proposals, and innovative programming alternatives (e.g., roundtables, symposia, debates, open forums, and community programs) for the 103rd annual convention of the Eastern Communication Association.
The 2012 convention’s theme, “Transitions,” connotes change, which certainly reflects the current state of communication technology – be it social networking, telecommuting or online education. We welcome all submissions related to communication technology, but particularly encourage those that address the conference theme.
The 103rd ECA convention will feature programming on the convention theme, short courses, poster sessions, roundtables and panels. Special events include a Welcome Reception on Thursday evening (April 26th), and the President’s Reception on Saturday (April 28th). The second annual James C. McCroskey and Virginia P. Richmond Undergraduate Scholars Conference will also be held during the convention (USC submission deadline Dec. 17). For more information about the 2012 convention and the Undergraduate Scholars Conference, please see http://www.ecasite.org/.
General information about the 2012 Call for Papers can be found at http://www.ecasite.org. Submissions to the Communication and Technology Interest Group must adhere to the following guidelines.
In order to receive full consideration, Communication and Technology Interest Group completed papers and program/panel proposals must be received by Friday, October 14, 2011.
Submissions must be sent via e-mail, with attachment(s) in MS Word format, to the 2012 Program Planner: Rod Carveth, Fitchburg State University
Competitive Papers
Abstracts or incomplete papers are not acceptable in this category. Submissions of completed papers should be sent via two separate Microsoft Word files:
- The first file should include the title page with author(s) name and contact information (affiliation, mailing address, telephone number, and e-mail address) and a statement of professional responsibility (see below).
- The second file should contain the text of the paper starting with a one-page abstract.
All author identifiers should be removed (excluding previous scholarly works cited in the paper and listed in the reference section).
The word “Debut” should be marked on the paper by authors who have not presented previously at a regional or national convention.
The e-mail subject line should include the abbreviation “ECA” and the title of the paper. The e-mail text should include any request for presentation aids (such as overhead projectors, video monitors, DVD players, etc.).
Finally, if the paper is multi-authored, please indicate who will be presenting the paper at the convention.
Program/Panel Proposals

When submitting a paper or proposal for review, the following statement MUST be included. (If it is not attached to a submitted document, the chair is responsible for obtaining a completed copy of this form prior to the paper/program/panel being officially programmed for presentation at the convention.) Papers and panels without this statement will not be programmed.
"In submitting the attached paper or proposal, I/we recognize that this submission is considered a professional responsibility.
