103rd Annual ECA Convention, April 26-29, 2012

Submission Deadline: Friday, October 14, 2011

The Rhetoric & Public Address Interest Group invites submission of competitive papers, thematic panel proposals and innovative programming alternatives (roundtables, symposia, open forums, etc.) for the 103rd ECA Annual Meeting to be held in Cambridge, MA.

The convention theme, The convention theme, Transitions, evokes scholarly thoughts regarding change, movement, passages, and journeys. Particularly, the interest group seeks submissions that explore and discuss the role of rhetoric in articulating, negotiating, reflecting and influencing transitions. Those transitions may be seen in a variety of contexts, on levels from local to global, especially as it occurs in public settings. Transitions may be current or historical in nature, and may reflect rhetorical analysis of transitions in systems including politics, economics, class and power. Therefore, this call for papers is especially concerned with the exploration of communicative issues related to transitions and their rhetorical analysis, or the rhetorical implications of transitions. .

The convention programming includes short courses, poster sessions, roundtables, and panels. Additionally, this convention will host the second Undergraduate Scholars Conference.  General information about the call for papers and the convention theme may be found at http://www.ecasite.org/.

Panel and Programming Proposals

Panel program proposals should focus on a unifying theme relevant to research, theory or criticism in rhetoric and public address.  We especially encourage panel proposals, in these areas, that are forward thinking about new horizons in rhetoric and public address. In addition to typical panel format of a chair, paper presenters and a respondent, we encourage proposals for round-table discussions, symposia, debates, performance venues, community programs or other unique formats.  Respondents may be included or omitted as appropriate. Innovative program proposals, especially those that provide opportunities for engaged interaction among participants and attendees, are also encouraged.  Programs that can be co-sponsored with other interest groups are also welcome.
