ECA - 2012 Convention - Call for Papers - Voices of Diversity

Call for Papers
Voices of Diversity
Eastern Communication Association

Cambridge, Massachusetts

Royal Sonesta Hotel

April 26-April 29, 2012

The 103rd annual convention of the Eastern Communication Association will be held April 26-April 29, 2012 at the Royal Sonesta Hotel, Cambridge, Massachusetts.

The theme for this year’s convention is Transitions.  This theme encourages us to consider ideas of change, movement, and journeys – both enjoyable and challenging. The notion of transition is certainly fundamental to the perspectives embraced by the Voices of Diversity Division, and presents us with interesting opportunities to consider the transitions of the past, present, and future.

As indicated by our group bylaws, the purpose of Voices of Diversity is to consider the lives and experiences of communities of diverse individuals whose voices may remain unheard due to marginalization in a dominant culture.  Such a focus brings us into direct consideration of the transitions which have occurred over time in understandings, enactments, and representations of diversity.  This focus also engages our investigation of transitions we seek or anticipate, and the impacts of such shifts.

The 2012 convention will include programming related specifically to the theme, short courses, workshops, traditional panel formats, and the second annual Undergraduate Scholars Conference (with its own submission process).  For Voices of Diversity submissions, you are encouraged you to consider alternative ways of presenting material that maximizes both the number of voices that can be heard, and the quality of the material addressed.  Please note: Because transitions are embedded in all communicative processes, it should be understood that utilizing the word “transitions” in every paper or program title is entirely unnecessary.

For additional information about the convention and the local area, please refer to the ECA website at http://www.ecasite.org/
