ECA - 2012 Convention - Call for Papers - Community College Interest Group

Eastern Communication Association

Community College Interest Group

CALL FOR PAPERS

The 103rd annual convention of the Eastern Communication Association will be held at the Royal Sonesta Hotel Boston, April 26-29, 2012.  The theme of this year's convention is "Transitions."  As Nancy Willets, First Vice President and convention planner, explains, this year's theme "evokes thoughts of change, as well as movement, passages, and journeys."  She continues by reminding us that “although not all transitions are pleasant, they often bring us greater enlightenment and renewal.” As members of Community Colleges, consider the movement we see on a daily basis – students coming and going (and some staying put), reorganization within administration, new and departing faculty, technology advancements and setbacks, higher education funding at both the state and federal level, and the economy’s impact at the Community College level.

With the “Transitions” theme in mind, I encourage you to submit your ideas for panels and roundtables to me by October 14, 2011.  At our business meeting in Arlington, we discussed the following ideas for panels: revamping and creating transitions to online courses, teaching online, moving to full programs, transition service to programs, the transition to Community College teaching, the transition from adjunct to full time, mentoring, and inclusion.

All submissions must be sent electronically to jpapajcik@starkstate.edu and should include:

As always, we will be sponsoring the G.I.F.T.S. (Great Ideas for Teaching STUDENTS) program.  If you have a classroom tested, great idea and would like to be a part of the G.I.F.T.S. panel, please contact Nadine Cichy at nadine.cichy@sinclair.edu.

Thank you for your interest in the Community College Interest Group.  I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Jessica Papajcik
