ECA - 2012 Convention - Call for Papers - Nonverbal Communication Interest Group
**CALL FOR PAPERS**
NONVERBAL COMMUNICATION INTEREST GROUP
EASTERN COMMUNICATION ASSOCIATION
103rd ANNUAL CONVENTION
April 26- 29th, 2012
Royal Sonesta Hotel Boston in Cambridge, Massachusetts
The Nonverbal Communication Interest Group is seeking paper, research in progress, and panel submissions for ECA's Annual Convention to be held at the Royal Sonesta Hotel Boston in Cambridge, Massachusetts from April 26 – 29th, 2012. The Convention theme is one that promises great opportunities for us to participate in meaningful, scholarly dialogue. “Transitions” evokes thoughts of change, as well as movement, passages, and journeys. Submissions must be made electronically and received by October 14, 2011. Of particular interest is research that explores innovations (or transitions!) in nonverbal communication.
Individual Paper Submissions:
Individual papers are papers that report original research, provide an extensive literature review or state of the art, or showcase some other form of scholarship. Papers that are to be considered will be no more than 25 pages (excluding title page, abstract, references, and appendices) and comply with the guidelines set forth in APA 6th edition. Research in progress will be considered, as long as the submission is completed through the methods of the study and includes a timeline for completion of study no later than April 1st, 2012. Submit your paper saved in Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx files) to James M. Durbin at jmd16@zips.uakron.edu. Include in the email subject line the abbreviation ECA and the title of your paper. Include in the text of the email any requests for presentational aids (please see the technology statement listed below). Each submission should contain two separate files consisting of the following:
(1) The first file should consist of a detachable title page with the title of the paper and author name(s) and contact information (affiliation, mailing address, telephone number, and email address). The word “Debut” should be marked on all papers written by authors who have not presented previously at a regional or national convention.
(2) The second file should contain the text of the paper starting with the abstract page. All author-identifiers should be removed from the second file (excluding previous scholarly works cited in the paper and listed in the reference section). The second file also requires the following statement of professional responsibility: In submitting the attached paper or proposal, I/We recognize that this submission is considered a professional responsibility. I/We agree to present this panel or paper if it is accepted and programmed. I/We further recognize that all who attend and present at ECA’s annual meeting must register and pay required fees.
Program/Panel Proposal Submissions:
Program submissions should consist of one copy of the proposal in Microsoft Word to James M. Durbin at jmd16@zips.uakron.edu. Include in the email subject line the abbreviation ECA and the title of your program or panel proposal. Each submission must include the following:
- A title page with a thematic title for the program; names and contact information for all participants (institutional affiliation, mailing addresses, phone numbers, email addresses).
- Names of the chair and respondent, if any.
The chair should not act as a respondent. All the participants should not originate from the same institution.
- A detailed rationale for the program/panel.
- A title and abstract for each presentation.
- A description of the panel (maximum 75 words) to appear in the final program.
- A following statement of professional responsibility: In submitting the attached paper or proposal, I/We recognize that this submission is considered a professional responsibility.
