Complete Story 09/09/2010Call for Participants to the Basic Course ConferenceCall for Participants to the Basic Course Conference
Join us for the Basic Course Conference Wednesday, April 13, 2011
As the Basic Course becomes more central to college and university curricula, and as legislative attention makes higher education reform a priority, faculty need to examine not only who we are teaching, but what we are teaching, how we are teaching it, where we are teaching it, and who is doing the teaching. With these questions in mind the focus of the conference will be:
The Basic Course: Politics and Practice
Invited speakers and panelists this year will address
- Accreditation, Articulation and Access: Internal and external politics and the Basic Course as a general education requirement
- Text and Content: A re-examination of the topics covered in light of recent research, and the impact of new textbook formats on content and theory
- Context and Content: Examining the direction of and instruction in the Basic Course in University, College and Community College settings
- Accountability and Assessment: Consideration of the extent to which our students improve communication competencies in skill areas such as listening, critical thinking, group problem solving, or conflict resolution.
The Basic Course Conference will begin with registration and breakfast at 9:00 a.m. It will include lunch, with a keynote speaker, and multiple presentations.
