The Position(s): The Department of Communications Media at Indiana University of Pennsylvania invites applications for two full-time tenure-track faculty position(s) at the Assistant Professor rank to begin Fall 2012. These vacancies are due to recent faculty retirements and the expansion of departmental programs. Those programs include a B.S. in Communications Media, an M.A. in Adult Education and Communications Technology and a Ph.D. in Communications Media and Instructional Technology.
Applicants should be prepared to teach courses in one or more of the following areas; graphics & multi-media; video, audio and/or radio production; photography; media promotion; oral communication & presentation-making; media writing; organizational, corporate or political communication; communications research and theory; instructional design & technology; research methods; web-based media production; and new media. One position will carry with it the responsibility of teaching the department's career preparation class and supervising an extensive internship program for undergraduate and master's degree students. One position may include the responsibility of supervising the department's student-operated cable television facility, IUP-TV. The successful candidates may be assigned to provide instruction through distance education.
Qualifications: The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate in communications or related field at the time of appointment. Highly sought-after candidates will possess a combination of teaching and production expertise. Additionally, two years teaching and/or production expertise in one of the areas supported by the department and a record of scholarship and service is preferred. Professional experience will also be taken into consideration. The candidate must communicate effectively and perform well during the interview process, which will include a teaching demonstration. Responsibilities: Applicants should be prepared to teach courses at the undergraduate, master's and doctoral levels, work with doctoral students on research, and supervise doctoral dissertations. Applicants will be required to have appropriate credentials to obtain and maintain eligibility to teach at the graduate level. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to advising, office hours, departmental and university committees, and meetings/activities.
