What is CARW?
Capital Area Republican Women (CARW) was formed in the wake of the 2004 general election in recognition of the need to reach out to the median demographic of women. As generations have grown, the 30-50 year age bracket is an entirely different base now than it was even 20 years ago. Women in the 21st century have professional mindsets (even if presently removed from employment) and unprecedented control over disposable income.
Unfortunately, this demographic has also assumed a full schedule of career, children, household maintenance, etc., that has traditionally prevented extracurricular involvements such as political clubs. Without that extra ‘push,' this group has been largely under-represented at the candidate selection levels (i.e., primary elections).
The importance of the women's vote has been addressed through the past several election cycles, but it really came to a head in the past presidential election, for a number of reasons. Also, the Franklin County community was particularly mobilized because of the national microscope on our city.
To fill the needs and generate interest in this largely untapped resource (forward focused women, generally) has collectively created the Capital Area Republican Women.
