COCC Provides Free Upgrade to Prevent Cyber Crime
January 26, 2010
The threat of cyber crime never truly goes away, particularly as financial institutions increase their use of the Internet through social networking, browser tool bars and Flash animations. This ‘richer' web experience opens new possibilities for Internet crime, particularly as thieves shift their attacks from email to the web.
To combat the emerging threats, COCC has installed advanced web filtering capabilities free of charge to all clients that use the company's advanced web connectivity services. The new system helps prevent financial institution personnel from visiting criminal web sites and from inadvertently downloading ‘crimeware' which can corrupt networks and steal private information.
"Considering the tremendous pressures of cost and security that financial institutions face today, we are pleased to deliver this level of web security services at no extra charge," said Brent Biernat, Vice President - Network Services at COCC. "This is a top quality system in use at 81% of the Fortune® 500 companies worldwide."
The new web filter ‘grows' with the Internet by monitoring home and commercial web sites and storing the names of known criminal sites in a massive database. New sites are analyzed and categorized in real time. Reports of all web activity are automatically produced for auditing purposes, reducing the time required for compliance and forensic activities.
