Florida Trauma Centers
The state of Florida is home to 21 trauma centers. Florida's trauma centers are well known for their quick response to trauma emergencies and progression in advanced technologies. Emergency rooms are not trauma centers. A trauma center has highly trained specialists in-house or immediately available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Trauma centers have access to air emergency whose only job is to be available for the moment a serious accident occurs. Trauma centers provide the highest level of care and expertise, with the most cutting edge technology and resources available for treatment.

Florida Burn Centers
A Burn Center provides a comprehensive team approach to the care of burn victims. The clinical team, including burn/trauma surgeons, nurse practitioners, nurses, skilled technicians, occupational therapists, physical therapists, social workers, registered dietitians and psychologists provide care throughout the duration of stay for each patient.
After completing the rigorous process set forth by the American Burn Association (ABA) and American College of Surgeons, the Burn Center receives notice of successful verification by the ABA. This verification demonstrates a continued commitment to the treatment of patients suffering burn injuries and the allocation of resources necessary to ensure the best outcomes. As of today, there are only 3 ABA verified burn centers below in the state of Florida:
| Tampa General Hospital 2 Columbia Dr Tampa, FL 33601 (813) 844.7000 Website |

ATLS, PHTLS, and ATCN Courses
Details on upcoming trauma education courses can be found on the Events page. More information on the nature of these courses is below.
ATLS
The Advanced Trauma Life Support Course teaches a systematic, concise approach to the early care of the trauma patient. This course is vital to guiding care for the injured patient in emergency department trauma rooms. The course training provides a common language that can save lives in critical situations.
PHTLS
Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) courses are nationally recognized continuing education programs for prehospital emergency health care professionals that bring the care of the trauma patient into a single focus.
PHTLS courses provide a prehospital trauma care philosophy, stressing the need to treat the multisystem trauma patient as a unique entity with specific needs. This may require an approach to the trauma patient that varies from traditional treatment modalities.
PHTLS courses are based on the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), a course for physicians developed by the American College of Surgeons-Committee on Trauma. More importantly, PHTLS courses follow the principles of care of trauma patients as developed by the Committee on Trauma.
The Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons provides the medical direction and content oversight for the PHTLS program. They are represented by the medical directors on the Executive Council of the PHTLS Division of the National Association of EMTs. ATCN
Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) is an advanced course designed for the registered nurse interested in increasing his/her knowledge in management of the multiple trauma patient. The ATCN course is taught concurrently with ATLS. The ATCN program has been operational for over 15 years and has an excellent record of offering a superb trauma educational program, and maintaining a positive collaboration with the ACS Committee on Trauma State Chapters. The ATCN program is currently being offered in numerous states as well as internationally.
Please visit the Society of Trauma Nurses website for additional information.
