CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
All residents and fellows in Ohio surgery and surgery specialty programs are eligible to enter. An abstract presentation and a poster session are the two components of the competition.

Rules

Eligibility: All residents and fellows enrolled in general surgery or surgical specialty residency training programs in the state of Ohio who have not completed training before 2010 are eligible.

Entries: Residents or fellows can submit work in a basic science, clinical science or oncology category. The entry should represent original work done by the contestant while a resident or fellow in the state of Ohio. The principal author of the essay must be that resident or fellow.

The abstract must be submitted online using the link below. Please ensure that the abstract has all identification of authors and institutions. The program abstract form should accompany the abstract. Essays are limited to a single, double-spaced, typewritten page.

The program abstract form must be accompanied by a letter of sponsorship from a department chair or program director of the contestant who is a member of the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. This letter must attest to the originality of this work and its compliance with the rules of the contest.

Submitted work must not have been published, accepted for publication, or won previous awards. As a condition of submission, the contestant agrees to present this work on Friday, May 7, 2010, at the Annual Meeting if selected for the competition. Failure to present the work will result in forfeiture of the award.

1st and 2nd place awards will be given in the basic science, clinical science and oncology categories. The best abstract on oncology will receive the John P. Minton Award and the second place in the oncology category will receive the Holzer Clinic Award. Finalists in basic and clinical science categories and the recipients of the John P. Minton Award and the Holzer Clinic Award MUST PRESENT THEIR WORK AT THE MEETING.

Of the entries submitted that are not selected for presentation, the top three (3) of each category will be selected to place a poster in the exhibition hall on Friday, May 7.

All finalists and poster presenters receive a complimentary registration to the annual meeting.

Input Title of Abstract.

Input Author Name, Author Institution, Street Address, City, State, ZIP, Daytime Phone, and Email Address.

Input Sponsor Name and Submission Date.

Check the box that states that the abstract represents original work done.

Check the box regarding your understanding that you will present your Abstract at the Annual Meeting.

Check appropriate Category for submission.

Upload your Abstract and Letter of Sponsorship following the instructions.
ABSTRACT SUBMISSIONS

Abstracts must be received by Friday, February 26, 2010 for consideration.

Limit the abstract to a single 8½ by 11 inch page. The abstract should be typed double-spaced with 1" borders on all sides; font size at least 10 points.

Capitalize the entire title.

Type and underline the authors' names followed by the name and location of the authors' institution.

The principal author of the essay must be that resident or fellow.

Authors' names and the institution should be present on the abstract.
-
Photos, graphs, or graphics must be neat and legible.

The program abstract form must be accompanied by a letter of sponsorship from a department chair or program director of the contestant who is a member of the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. This letter must attest to the originality of this work and its compliance with the rules of the contest.
POSTER DISPLAY (For those submissions selected for a poster display)

You are provided with one corkboard to affix your poster presentation.
- We are requesting that your poster be not wider than 4' and easily able to affix to the corkboard.
