Why You Cannot Afford to Miss This Event

The Ohio Chapter, ACS and the Ohio Committee on Trauma (OCOT) are pleased to invite you to participate in this year’s Legislative Day. The November 2010 general election brought significant changes to Ohio’s political landscape. Governor John Kasich has assumed the governor’s office and Republicans have a majority in both the Ohio House and Ohio Senate chambers. Republicans also claimed many of the statewide elected office including a 6-1 majority on the Ohio Supreme Court. However, with the budget process moving forward and difficult spending decisions ahead, there is no better time for surgeons to advocate for priority items. Remember, legislators need to hear from you – the medical experts – in order to make informed decisions on issues facing Ohioans.

Ohio’s public policy activity remains a focal point of the Ohio Chapter, the Ohio Committee on Trauma, and healthcare advocates in Columbus. We are pleased to partner with each other to bring to Columbus a wealth of knowledge from surgeons representing all specialties and regions of Ohio. Remember, if surgeons don’t proactively advocate for items and issues that are important – then who will?

Along with presentations from top elected officials in Ohio, topics for the 2011 Legislative Day will likely include:

  • A review of legislation that affects the practice of surgery in Ohio.
  • A discussion of the uncertain budget conditions in Ohio and the looming challenges in Medicaid.
  • A review of major healthcare reform initiatives being offered by Republicans and Democrats to address access and affordability of health insurance.
  • A review of medical liability rates and reform in Ohio.
