The medical centers will offer case studies designed to show surgical residents how their peers have treated unusual cases. The forum is modeled on hospital grand rounds.

Presentations
1) Benign Obstructive Jaundice
This presentation will discuss the pathophysiology, workup, and treatment options of benign obstructive jaundice. Surgeons will update or review the current practice guidelines for biliary stricture operations.
Wadi Gomero-Cure, MD, is a third year general surgery resident at Washington Hospital Center. Did medical school at the University of Minnesota Medical School. Dr. Gomero-Cure’s interests include vascular surgery.
2) Small Bowel Neuroendocrine Tumors
This discussion will present a case of a small bowel neuroendocrine tumor discovered incidentally on workup of a mesenteric mass. The topic of uncommon neuroendocrine tumors will be discussed as well as the workup of a mesenteric mass.
- Attendees will learn the workup of neuroendocrine tumors and options for treatment.
- Attendees will learn the workup and differential diagnoses of mesenteric masses.
- Attendees will attain the skills to broaden there differential and improve patient outcomes in regard to these difficult tumors.
Kevin Brown, MD, is one of the chief residents at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and National Naval Medical Center. Dr. Brown attended University of Maryland School of Medicine for medical school and is planning to undertake a fellowship in vascular surgery.
